India invents environmentally friendly plastic degradation method

- Sep 27, 2019-

As for waste disposal, it has always been a headache for all countries in the world, with a large degree of pollution and a wide range, and the production continues to grow every year.

To solve this problem, scientists have racked their brains, but because plastic is hard to degrade, the general treatment method is only landfill, and landfill degradation time takes decades or even thousands of years, if the material is special landfill time may not be able to fully degrade.

As we all know, the method of landfill plastic is quite harmful to the land, and the time is so long that a lot of vacant land is needed for landfill.

In addition, the other method of burning, which is more desperate, has a huge impact on the biological and human body. It is easy to suffer from skin damage diseases and has a strong carcinogenic and teratogenic effect, which will lead to serious consequences over time.

New Delhi, Sept. 20 (xinhua) -- Indian researchers have developed an environmentally friendly way to degrade plastics.

Not only is it cheap, efficient and environmentally friendly, it requires only a few days of stirring in a 70-degree solution containing glucose and metal ions to break down the plastic into molecules.

After in-depth analysis, the research team of Indian institute of technology madras found that the degradation method is applicable to plastics materials such as tetrafluoroethylene, which can protect the environment under the premise of significant effect. It is also a breakthrough invention, which has very important practical significance in the modern environment rich in garbage.

Polytetrafluoroethylene is called "the king of plastics", is by tetrafluoroethylene after polymerization of polymer compounds, with ultra-high chemical stability, corrosion resistance, sealing, electrical insulation and good anti-aging endurance.

During the experiment, the researchers * began to mix a solution of 1000ppm glucose with ionic ions and heated it to 70℃. Then the magnetic stirrers of ptfe were put into the solution. After 15 days of continuous stirring, the surface of the solution showed tiny red glowing fragments (molecular fragments of ptfe polymer).

If there is no physical stirring in this experiment, ptfe will not be degraded.

Just like ordinary chemical experiments, temperature has catalytic function, which must be controlled to about 70℃, and the degradation rate reaches a high value, while the increase of glucose content will enhance the degradation effect.

Although this method the effect is very obvious, but standing on the microcosmic perspective, if the teflon coating in the cooker, relative chemical reaction will occur, * after the degradation of molecular residue in tableware, users could easily lead to poisoning, after use, in the process of cleaning the tableware molecules through the sewers discharge into the ocean, and because of the sea has a large number of metal ions, under the waves of mixing, it is easy to produce micro plastic, after * cause pollution.

conclusion

Although the plastic degradation method invented by India is very effective, without the guarantee of safety measures, if a little slack in the control process, it is easy to cause a second hazard, which can't be remedied.

All in all, the invention of plastic degradation method in India is also a huge breakthrough. Rational use will surely benefit mankind and reduce the burden on nature.

Of course, this invention is also a great progress of mankind, has a particularly positive environmental effect, is the whole earth's organisms lucky.
