PlastipakItaliaPreforme, an Italian bottle-blowing company affiliated with the Plastipak group that focuses on the production of bottle-blowing containers, recently announced a partnership with Garbo to develop an industrial-scale PET chemical recycling solution.
Garbo, an italian-based company, specialises in refining high-value materials, including terephthalate (BHET) from chemical recycling of PET.
It is also working with the universities of bologna and modena in Italy to develop a chemical recycling scheme called ChemPET.
The new cooperative approach will advance the use of PET chemical recycling in bottle embryo and bottle applications.
In addition, Garbo's chemical recycling technology will help it stretch its recycling and sustainability capabilities.
As part of the deal, both companies will work to expand global cooperation.
The deal will also support Plastpak's Plastpak offering sustainable packaging solutions to its customers.
The company currently has more than 40 production facilities in north and South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
Last October, Plastipak invested $10 million in its production site in Garland, Texas, to improve manufacturing machinery.
Plastipak's galan production facility, built in 1996 on a 400,000-square-foot site, provides rigid containers for DrPepper, PepsiCo, kraft heinz and procter & gamble.
